What is the pride of life?

Micah 6:8

…and what does the Lord require of you?
but to do justice, and to live kindness
and to walk humbly with your God?

Matthew 6:33 - 34

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is it’s own trouble.

Romans 8’s identity claimes:

  • Christ disciples are Co-heir’s of the kingdom of God

  • Christ disciples are called

  • Christ disciples are justified & glorified.

What Does God Want from me?

God wants me to throw off a cynical heart and embrace the innocence of being a child. A child has limited perspective but receives the instruction from parents, even when it is difficult.

God knows that we are spiritual children, struggling to grasp his perspective. We are prone to throw temper tantrums and longing to fill our hearts desire with what we want. A child understands that their parent loves them, even when it is a tough love.

We are also instructed to walk humbly. We naturally want to live life on our terms, in a way that makes sense to us. True humility embraces the reality that we are limited and prone to wrong decisions

Noetic Effect of the Fall

The “Noetic Effect” of the fall is an interesting theological concept. The fall tainted everything, including mankinds ability to reason. Our own logic is darkened and distorted (Ephesians 4: 17 - 18). We also can suppress truth and have limitations on our logic.

The Noetic Effect makes us depend on the hold spirit to regenerate our thinking.

Humility in living our lives requires us to trust God’s perspective and logic over our own.

1 John 2 : 15 - 16

Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world - the desires of the flest and the desires of the eyes and the pride of life - is not from the Father but is from the wold. And the wold is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.

The pride of life squeezes out the holy spirit and refocuses our attention to the things of the flesh. As we fight the urge for the pride of life we are now open to trust God, even when it is perplexing, difficult and perhaps counter intuitive.

To walk in the spirit is to forego living in the pride of life.
